Getting started with email on your mobile

If you use an email provider such as Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo or Outlook,com you can quickly and automatically set up your email account using just your email address and password.

For other providers you may need your server details but these can normally be found by asking your provider or IT Department.

Setting up your iPhone with email:

 

Choose your Account
  1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then tap Add Account.
  2. If you see your email provider, tap it to add your account automatically. If you don’t see your email provider, tap Other to add your account manually.
Set up an account automatically
  1. Enter your email address and password.
  2. Tap Next and wait for Mail to verify your account.
  3. Choose the content you want to sync. Tap Save.
Or, Set up an account manually
  1. Tap Add Account, tap Other, then tap Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter your name, email address, password, and a description for your account.
  3. Tap Next. Mail will try to find the email settings and finish your account setup. If Mail finds your email settings, tap Done to complete your account setup.

If Mail can’t find your email settings, you need to enter them manually. After you enter your email address and password, tap Next, then follow these steps:

  1. Choose IMAP or POP for your new account. If you aren’t sure which one to choose, contact your email provider.
  2. Enter the information for Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server. Then tap Next. If you don’t have this information, try to look it up or contact your email provider.

Setting up your Samsung Galaxy S5/6 with email:

 

Choose your Account
  1. Open your Apps list using the home screen icon.
  2. In the Apps list, tap on Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Personal section and tap on Accounts.
  4. The Accounts page will show any accounts already set up on your Samsung Galaxy (if you have any). Tap Add account.
Set up an account automatically (Gmail)
  1. On the list of account types, tap on the Google logo
  2. Enter your email address then tap Next
  3. Enter your email password and tap Next
  4. Follow the next few screens which may ask you to setup or confirm payment info
  5. Your Google email will now be available in the Gmail app, which you can access via the Apps tray.
Or, Set up an account manually (Exchange, POP iMAP)
  1. Open the App Tray by pressing the square Apps icon at the bottom of the home screen.
  2. Locate and tap on the Settings icon.
  3. Scroll down to the Personal section and tap on Accounts.
  4. The Samsung Galaxy will show any accounts already set up. Tap Add account to continue.
  5. If you have an Exchange email account choose Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. For all other account types tap Email.
  6. Type in your email address and password, then tap Next to continue.
  7. If the account sets up automatically, you will be shown options on how often to check for email, how long to sync etc. Once these are to your choosing tap Next.
  8. If it does not setup automatically, you will need to put in your server details (which can be provided by your email provider*)
  9. You will then be asked to give the account a name, and also enter your name which will appear on outgoing emails. Tap Done to finish the setup

*This additional information will include the account Username, Password, and also incoming & outgoing mail server settings. If it is an Exchange account you may need to have the Domain and Exchange server information.
